There are four main types of graphic novels:
1. Manga: The Japanese word for "comic" but definitely a growing type of graphic novel to be considered in today's modern era of graphic novels. Manga is read from top to bottom and right to left as this is the traditional Japanese reading pattern. Title examples: Death Note, Full Metal Alchemist 2. Superhero Story ("Graphic Fiction"): Superhero graphic novels have taken the most popular form of comics and turned what were once brief episodic adventures into epic sagas. Superhero comics are dominated by a few mainstream publishers Marvel, DC, and Darkhorse. Title examples: Batman: Dark Knight Returns, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Astrocity.
